Review of Accident & Emergency - 0236 written by a patient
3rd January 2018

I was made to wait for 8 hours after being told it would be 6 hours. I was also the last person to be seen.... most people i had seen where in and out of hospital within 4-6hrs. I had pain on left side of my chest consistantly all day and i told staff it was becoming more intense while at the hospital. As i came in i was waiting to see the steaming nurse... carlos i think his name was. As i was waiting x3 people just before me complainted of the same symtoms i had.... all of which where processed hours before me even though we arrived at the same time..... not sure what sort of priority system is running down there. I feel i have been treated as if my symtoms were not important.... surely if they were not important my doctors surgery would not have reffered me with a letter for the medical team???? Not happy at all.... i have heard from staff that work at watford general i know outside of work that there is a bit of an issue with rasist staff in a & e....... i feel as if i could be the latest victim given my treatment

My wife was in Watford from 26 November to 3 December. During that time she was not given medication that should have been given, with the nurse arguing she wasn’t prescribed that medicine when she was. She was left with dressings falling off an open wound. Several times the nurses shouted at her when she pointed out such errors rather than accepting and correcting. I have collected all the messages send me during the time listing the errors, nurses shouting at patients, open wounds left to leak etc. etc. But it is 26 pages long - far too long to send to anyone and hope they read it so we are planning to edit it and then send it to anyone who will listen. Sadly I’m not sure anyone will do anything. But I have the entire conversation if anyone doubts what I have written above and am totally willing to share it.

After my pre-assesment I was booked for yesterday. I was met by charming nurse practitioners who engaged with me, who smiled who made me feel welcome and warm. Not easy when they do this every day. I was informed about every aspect of what was happening to me and i think I met most of the nurses and consultant and registrars all of whom were v. professional and kind. I am "nearly a doctor" that's a know-it-all man of a certain age and they indulged my every whim..and made it interesting! Giovani P/P (can;t remember surname) was amusing AND informative and interesting. Nurses Tomasz Adriana Patrache and sister Alma Mac P (blame the lack of surnames on the fentanyl) Dr Shahzad has less time for my nonsense but he came to see me and explained the process. ANYTHING I CAN DO FOR THEM OR THE HOSPITAL I WILL. All we have to hope for is that this awful PM and her ilk keep the NHS floating. I have been apolitical all my life until now. A bit late to start

Review of AAU 3 Purple & Green (CCU) - 0215 written by a patient

The good thing about Watford General Hospital is the staff. Everyone was either nice and caring or very nice and caring! And I'm talking about all levels, consultants down to porters and cleaners. The bad thing is the seeming lack of co-ordination and organisation. For example I was given a medication which meant I couldn't have a procedure the next day. And there's too much repetition - I was asked the same questions over and over again, surely some data ought to be on a computer system. And there's a lot of waiting and disappointment - perhaps staff should be more realistic about expected dates and times. And also I have found several mistakes on my discharge sheet - I can't understand why this can happen. I don't like to tell a hospital how to do its job but since you ask, I think perhaps an extra administrator/co-ordinator would be good.

My care was very good - staff were very polite and caring and made a good job of my surgery so that I am healing very quickly which is good.

We are all aware that the NHS can be stretched at times and really under pressure. My whole process was amazing and the care provided outstanding - admitted at 10.30am and in theatre at 3.30pm for removal of my appendix. I really appcitiate the work and commitment of each staff member and the care provided throughout my stay. A hospital to be proud of ! Thank you!

The inpatient side of care was very good. However the discharge process and report was apalling and dishonest. It's sole pupose was to make the bed available. This has put my wife at risk of harm by falling. I am taking advice as to whom is responsible, the hospital or social services, in the event of any injury due to the inappropiate discharge.

Daughter spent night on trolley in corridor along with 10 others. No doctors. Not enough nurses. No communication about timescales. Want to arrange self discharge but they can't guarantee GP will be informed if there are concerns. Arrived 1:30am. Still waiting to see a doctor at 7am.
